Butterfly World

A Grand Day Out in Hertfordshire!

Butterfly World

Butterfly World aims to raise awareness of the environmental needs of the most beautiful and fragile representation of nature - The Butterfly

There is so much to see, do, learn and visit at Butterfly World :-

Tropical Butterfly House: Come and see our butterflies in their tropical habitat.  At any one time you will be able to see between 500-800 butterflies, from 15-20 species. Look carefully and you will see eggs and caterpillars on the plants, and even some pupae.

Butterfly World

Ant World : Visit our colonies of leaf cutter ants. This species invented farming and living in a 'city'. They each have their own jobs and work together to support their Queen.

Butterfly World

Insect Study Centre : The place to view our collection of Creepy Crawly Insects.  Study our Stick insects, Cockroaches, Snails, Locust, Mantis and lots more and you even get a chance to hold some of these insects during our regular Insect Handling Session.

The Bee Hut : Filled with information about the honey bee, with education boards and a close up view of bees at work in our brand new viewing hive. In the gardens just outside, watch as they gather pollen and take it back to the hives situated in the Bee Garden.

Butterfly World

The Gardens & Meadows : The Butterfly World gardens were created as an attraction for anyone interested in gardening - or just those who want to be inspired. The ‘Leaf' gardens including ‘The Theatre of Insects' and ‘Through the Flowerpot Garden', in which you are transformed into ‘insect size' and walk through a giant flowerpot...but make sure the spider doesn't catch you! These gardens are adored by children and grown-ups alike. There are over 20 acres of wildflower meadows at Butterfly World, which are now providing habitats for species of butterflies and moths that have previously been extinct in Hertfordshire.
