Stockport’s intriguing network of underground tunnels offers visitors unparalleled insight into life in 1940s wartime Britain. When the shelters opened in 1939, they were the largest purpose built civilian air raid shelters in the country designed to provide shelter for up to 6,500 people. This is a unique opportunity to experience the sights and sounds of the homefront and learn how local people experienced and survived the Blitz.

This is one of the region’s finest examples of a black and white timber-framed manor house, with Victorian additions, spanning six centuries and set in 70 acres of beautiful parkland. Gain a unique insight into the families and servants who have lived and worked at the hall and see some wonderful examples of interior design by prolific Arts and Crafts furniture designer George Faulkner Armitage.

This pint-size museum is a beautifully restored 18th century chapel set in the heart of the Chadkirk Country Estate. Come along and relax in the peace and tranquillity of the setting and learn all about the history of the chapel and the legends that link it to the 7th century missionary St. Chad. The UK’s only museum dedicated to the hatting industry, hats and headwear. Two floors of interactive exhibits show the history of Stockport’s once thriving hatting industry. Experience a recreated hat factory with 20 fully restored working Victorian-style machines and an exquisite collection of 400 hats. Hat Works is also an explosive hub of excellence, creativity and innovation for milliners, designer-makers and those with an interest in couture fashion and cutting edge design.
